Social networks are an amazing phenomenon of our generation, and statistics are at least, surprising:

• Facebook has more than 1.5 billion active users on its platform.

• On Twitter, more than 350,000 tweets are sent per minute.

• In Youtube are assisted more than 6 billion hours of video per month.

• Instagram counts over 1 million likes per minute.

• LinkedIn has over 400,000 users on its network.

Millions of small entrepreneurs, bloggers or liberal professionals put all their efforts on social networks.

After all, they are entirely free, and through them, you can reach literally billionS of people on the internet.

However, I need to make a major warning:

"Put all your effort in social networks is the fastest way to failure."

Why?

That's what we will discuss in this article.

I. THE FAILURE CYCLE IN SOCIAL NETWORKS





















Peter is a micro-entrepreneur and the owner of a local business, he sells healthy food for neighbors.

Believing in the power of social networks, he decided to create a Facebook page. After all, it's free, why not?

He called all his friends, talks about it for relatives and where he passes by leaving his message to follow his Facebook page.

But he soon realizes that failed to get the number of followers that he expected to gain.

So to speed up the page growth, he decided to spread it on Facebook, by creating ads for interested people to "Like" his Page.

After spending some money on that initial investment, Pedro now has a few thousand followers.

But an unexpected change in Facebook would raise doubts about all his progress ...

In 2012, the social network began to limit the organic reach to 16% of total fans from a page.

While in February 2014, an analysis showed that only 6% of users, on average, received the posts of the page. And since then, those numbers are falling...

The drops of organic reach of his publications brought Pedro to believe that the only possible option was to spend more money on ads to reach his current audience for whom Facebook did not show Peter´s updates.

But he soon realizes the path of no return that was coming to happen...

He invested money in attracting fans to his page, and now he was spending more money to reach the fans that he had already paid ?!

Peter soon realized that would not be possible to continue investing so much on Facebook, and so he decides to create a free account on Instagram to promote his business.

The perfect niche for Instagram?

After all, the health niche, exercise and nutrition are very powerful in this social network.

Despite posting all day consistently, search for hashtags and engage with other profiles and his fans, he noticed a change in Instagram that begins to affect his reach.

Rolling his timeline, he sees advertisements.

Immediately, Peter remembers the vicious cycle that he went on Facebook to promote his posts and his brand.

Then decides to test another social network.

Twitter?

Would Twitter be a solution?

Despite more than 271 million active users in 2016, the rumor that the social network will begin to use a similar algorithm to Facebook scares Peter, who decides to ignore this option.

What about Youtube?

Since people watch more than 6 billion hours of video per month, it is likely that even a small portion of this number can serve to Peter.

But after spending time and energy publishing a series of videos, Pedro realizes that the content producer on Youtube earns only $ 1 per 1,000 views. A CPM of $1.

So if he wants to have an income of $ 10,000 per month, it would need to generate 10 million views every month.

That´s because the algorithm favors Youtube views over the quality of content, once the social network does not send notifications to registered users in the channel if it does not launch videos every week.

Even for successful channels, with more than 10 million subscribers, revenues from ads on YouTube are not enough.

According to Ian SBF, YouTube is not a cost-effective model for them.

"For a channel like ours, which has 50 employees and a vast payroll, YouTube is a model that does not work anymore."

Would periscope be a way out?

Being connected live with his audience and increase his authority is an excellent proposal to create a strong brand.

But the profiles that he closely followed on Periscope were no longer generating content ...

Or at least that was what he thought ...

Searching further, was the Periscope application that stopped of adopting as a notification standard to users about live interactions.

"Why to build a blog?" They ask themselves...

"Everybody have a Facebook, right?"

Just create a free business page there and keep all my digital business around it ...

As you saw, the organic reach of most pages is between 2% -6%, a number that has been around 16% (or more) in the past.

Now, it is very tough if not almost impossible, to reach your audience, which yourself created on Facebook, by investing in advertising or organically.

And Facebook has a solution to solve this problem ...

Invest your money on ads to reach more people.

Frustrating?

What were you expecting? It´s their land, not yours.

And maybe you´re a lucky guy for not being of the businesses that had their page deleted or the account banned by any violation of the Facebook rules.

And the same goes for the other social networks.

You must be very careful when investing your time and energy in them. Especially if some of them vanishes.

1. ORKUT (GOOGLE)

  • Creation: January 24, 2004 (the same year of Facebook).
  • Peak: In the 2011 Christmas Eve were sent 95 million comments - a historical mark of the social network. In January, were added over 62 million photos, which resulted in 1.6 billion page views.   • Reason: Ping was a social network created for sharing favourite songs and artists, connected to iTunes. Apparently, it did not work because users were not willing to spend much time on it. Besides the limitation of 3 genres of music for users recommends and direct competition with the giants Facebook and Twitter, made the extinction of Ping inevitable.

3. MYSPACE

  • Creation: August 1, 2003.
  • Peak: In just over six months of its establishment, MySpace had reached the mark of 5 million users. Almost a year later, there were already 20 million registered people. According to ComScore, in 2011 it was recorded 73 million users.
  • Extinction: Still exists in the "underground world" of social networks.
  • Reason: He lost space for the dominant Facebook.

4. FORMSPRING

  • Creation: November 25, 2009.

VI. WHY NOT TO HAVE A BLOG ON WIX, WORDPRESS.COM OR BLOGGER?

Perhaps you've agreed with the importance of having a blog, but you do not know where to start or can not spend money on hosting, email software and a paid WordPress theme.

So you think the solution is to create a blog in Wix, WordPress.com or Blogger.

But I will be honest and direct with you:

You're just putting off the death of your blog.

First, if you cannot invest anything to build a real business, then you are not prepared to be a digital entrepreneur.

1. THE WIX PROBLEM

Several users of Wix were outraged when they noticed an abrupt drop in visits, generating an avalanche of complaints. The reason?
